“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” ~Mark Twain (www.quotegarden.com)
My ultimate dream is to spend one year travelling the world. I want to start from Toronto and travel down the America’s, jump across the Atlantic to Africa; up to and through Europe; then through Russia to India; from there to China and into South East Asia; and finally down into Australia and the Pacific islands until I land back in Vancouver. The trip back to Toronto would be a classic “victory lap” by train. All of this would of course be in the time span of a year – no small feat. But just thinking of the kind of adventure it would be makes my mouth drool. For me the idea of travelling draws me like a magnet; although I definitely prefer to be a traveller instead of just a tourist, the journey is as important as the destination. On top of this I also want to record the whole journey in words and pictures – so this is the blog I started to first brush up on my skills and then to record it all. But forget the big adventure – for now I will be writing about my adventures in my newly rediscovered hometown of Toronto and up coming trip through western Europe.
Until the next time, arrivederci!
